Case Studies: Park Air Systems
Never more important than today has there been the need for leading-edge aviation
systems to control and monitor our increasingly busy skies. Park Air Systems, a
multi-national operation with facilities in Europe, USA and Asia provides
Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) solutions for the world's
airspace. Dedicated to implementing advanced air traffic control systems, Park
Air currently has an installed base encompassing 167 countries.
Not surprisingly when it wanted a cabinet to house its latest high end PAE T6
radio system it wanted to be certain that the cabinet chosen would complement
its own systems. The selected cabinet would be integral to Park Air's offering
to the commercial and military markets. As such it had to be perfect in every
aspect from design and functionality to aesthetics.
To ensure they would select a cabinet fit for the task Park Air embarked upon an
extensive design evaluation procedure lasting several months. A number of
suppliers' cabinets were tested but most were unable to meet Park Air's specific
requirements.
The Access cabinet was chosen because it was the only cabinet to meet all of Park
Air's stringent requirements. Cooper B-Line's Access cabinet represents the very
latest innovations in enclosure design. By eliminating traditional corner posts
Access gives all round equipment access - a particularly important feature to
Park Air to allow the space needed for equipment mounting and all round access
once installed. Park Air selected a standard Access cabinet with cover trims at
the front and a vented metal door at the rear for security. To accommodate the
specific equipment mounted into the cabinet, customised 19" mounting rails where
then designed, giving greater flexibility and functionality to the system.
Cooper B-Line have established a working partnership with Park Air which includes
a turnaround on new contracts of four weeks and the holding of residual stocks
for extreme fluctuations in demand.
Access was first considered during Park Air's bid to provide advanced digital
communication capability throughout the central/eastern Brazil airspace. Park
Air successfully won the contract to provide communications across an area
measuring 1.5M km2- three times the size of France with the highest air traffic
density in South America.
To provide the necessary wide area coverage, over 30 radio sites will be set up
during the next two years throughout the region. Each radio site will benefit
from the supply of Park Air's PAE T6 MDR technology which is housed in an Access
cabinet.
David Chandler Marketing and Business Development Manager of Parkair said "Access
was clearly the right cabinet for us and Cooper B-Line has proven to be a
reliable and flexible preferred supplier. The Access cabinet has been very
successful so much so that we have used in excess of 200 in our projects around
the world in the last year alone and are currently using Access cabinets in the
systems being supplied to China."
